Mayo rounded out the Allianz League campaign by handing out a hammering to Roscommon.
Mayo produced a blistering attacking display to sweep aside Roscommon by 4-26 to 2-11, finishing far too strong for their Connacht rivals after turning a competitive first half into a rout.
Roscommon made the sharper start and were on the board inside two minutes when Ben O’Carroll opened the scoring.
Mayo settled quickly, though, with Aidan O’Shea, Jack Coyne and Ryan O’Donoghue helping the home side edge in front.
The early stages were tight. Daire Cregg and Ben O’Carroll keeping Roscommon in touch. When O’Carroll found the net in the 20th minute Roscommon moved 1-2 to 0-5 ahead.
However, the lead was short-lived. Hugh O’Loughlin restored parity before Mayo exploded into life with two goals in a minute.
Paul Towey finished to the net after good work involving Aidan O’Shea, and then Jack Kearney followed up a Ryan O’Donoghue setup to raise a second green flag.
Black card finishes off Roscommon
In the space of a minute, Mayo had transformed the game and opened daylight between the teams.
Roscommon stayed in touch through Colm Neary and Shane Cunnane, but Mayo’s grip tightened as the interval approached.
Cian McBride and Jack Carney added points before Aidan O’Shea struck Mayo’s third goal after being played in by Carney.
The game swung against Roscommon in stoppage when Caolaon Keogh was shown a black card and Mayo were awarded a penalty, which Ryan O’Donoghue converted.
Mayo led 4-11 to 1-5 half-time. Any hope of a Roscommon revival after the break quickly faded.
Mayo resumed with the same sharpness, Jordan Flynn, Aidan O’Shea and David McBrien all adding to the tally as the gap stretched further.
Roscommon did manage a second goal through Eoin Colleran, but by then the game was well beyond them.
Mayo continued to pick off scores with ease, with Tommy Conroy, Ryan O’Donoghue, Jack Hynes, Cillian O’Connor and David McBride all scoring.
Daire Cregg landed a pair of two-pointers for Roscommon late on, but it was in vein.
Further Mayo scores from Ryan O’Donoghue, Cillian O’Connor and Eoin Colleran closed out a completely dominant afternoon for the hosts. Mayo winning out 4-26 to 2-11.
