A last minute Tomas Kennedy point was the difference as Mark Dowd’s Roscommon suffered defeat by the narrowest of margins in their 2026 Allianz League opener.
Roscommon started well as they went toe to toe with the All-Ireland Champions. However, Kerry converted six points without response mid-way through the first half.
However they responded well as Eoin Colleran and Enda Smith both raised the white flag for Roscommon.
A huge moment in the 27th minute has Diarmuid Murtagh found the net to put the minimum between the sides.
Keith Doyle put Roscommon ahead before a sucker-punch right before the interval. Tomas Kennedy found the back of the Rossies net to leave Kerry three points to the good at half time.
Diarmuid Murtagh’s two-pointer gave Roscommon the ideal start to the second-half. David Clifford found the back of the net for the Kingdom from the penalty spot.
However, as the hour mark hit Roscommon found themselves level before Jack Duggan put them in front in the dying embers.
Indeed, it was heartbreak for Mark Dowd’s side as David Clifford’s two pointer was followed up by a Tomas Kennedy point to seal the win for the All-Ireland champions.
Kerry sealing a 2-18 to 1-20 victory over Roscommon.
