A 10 point defeat in King & Moffatt Dr Hyde Park sees promotion slip from Roscommon’s grasp.
Conor Morris opened the scoring for Roscommon with a free after a minute of play. However, Donegal found form early on and hit 1-8 without reply, giving them a six point advantage after 10 minutes.
Points from Tommy Morris and Conor Mulry showed signs of promise for Roscommon but they were dealt another blow when Richie Ryan got Donegal’s second goal of the afternoon.
Conor Morris, Sean Canning, Paddy Fallon, Cian Murray and Darragh Finn all hit points for Roscommon as they produced an improved performance following the concession of a second goal.
On the stroke of half-time, Roscommon were dealt another blow as Donegal struck for their third goal of the contest. This time through Richie Ryan again.
Donegal took a seven point lead to the break, 3-10 to 0-12. Conor Morris opened the scoring with a free in the second half, as Donegal then hit three unanswered points.
Paddy Fallon hit consecutive points for the home side, but again Donegal replied with three unanswered points as they kept their commanding lead intact heading towards full-time.
Paddy Fallon and Darragh Finn got the final scores of the day for Roscommon. However, it was Donegal who held on to secure promotion book their place in a national league hurling final.
It ended as a 10-point victory for Donegal in Dr. Hyde Park, 3-20 to 0-19.
