The Chief Medical Officer is warning the current level of Covid 19 cases is unsustainable for the health system.

Almost 5,000 cases of the virus were reported last night.

Tony Holohan is asking people to stay and work from home and act as if you're infectious.

Meanwhile a total of 113 new cases of Covid were recorded yesterday for the Shannonside counties of Roscommon, Longford and Leitrim.

55 new cases were reported for Roscommon, 32 in Longford and 26 in Leitrim.

Roscommon has sene a total of 243 new cases reported over the last 14 days, while Longford saw 159 in the last fortnight and 99 were reported for Leitrim over the same period.

The 14 incidence rate of Covid per 100,000 of population is presently standing at 389 for Longford, 376 for Roscommon, and 309 in Leitrim.
