Portlick Scout Campsite is appealing to Westmeath County Council to reverse a decision to allow a local forest trail to be shared by horseriders and pedestrians alike.
Former County Councillor John Butler is the secretary of the Portlick Scout Management Committee at Ballykeeran in Co Westmeath.
He says signs were erected last week indicating to walkers that around one mile of the Blue walk in the Portlick Forest Amenity Area is now also an uncontrolled horseriding trail.
Management of the campsite which is adjacent to the forest have commissioned a risk assessment on activities in the area to identify how things can be improved and they have been corresponding with the council since May on the matter.
Mr Butler says they received assurances last week that the council is committed to continuing work on segregating the walkways however, he believes the introduction of shared signage shows that they are reneging on the commitment made in 2014 to fully segregate the track.
