Over 300 GAP inspections took place in the Shannonside region in 2025.
The figures form part of The National Agricultural Inspection Programme published by the Environmental Protection Agency.
A GAP or Good Agricultural Practice inspection refers to audits of farms to make sure they follow strict rules to protect water quality from farm waste.
Conducted by local authorities and the EPA, they aim to prevent farm pollution like slurry runoff, manure, and soiled water from entering local streams and lakes.
Locally, 159 inspections were carried out in Roscommon, 147 in Longford, while in Leitrim, there were 73.
Cork County Council recorded the highest level of farm inspections at 1,244, followed by Tipperary at 496, Meath's 488, and 433 in Wexford.
