Trial of man accused of murdering Detective Garda Colm Horkan delayed

The accused was due to stand trial this month but it has bene delayed for five months.

A man charged with the murder of Detective Garda Colm Horkin will not face trial until October.

The case was due to be heard in June at the Central Criminal Court, but has been delayed for four months.

Stephen Silver of Aughaward, Foxford, Co Mayo is charged with the murder of a member of An Garda Siochana in the course of his duty at Main Street, Castlerea, Co Roscommon on June the 17th, 2020.

Det Garda Horkan, who was based in Castlerea Garda station, died after he was shot while responding to an incident in the Co Roscommon town two years ago.

The trial has been pushed back as the prosecution is yet to receive a psychiatric assessment of the accused.

Stephen Silver will now go to trial for the murder of Detective Garda Colm Horkin on the 4th of October.
