TD slams lack of extra funds for mental health services in Roscommon

Roscommon TD Denis Naughten says the disclosure that no additional funding has been provided for mental health services across Roscommon, Galway or Mayo will have long term consequences for individuals and families over the weeks and months ahead.

The Independent TD was speaking after it was revealed the winter plan for the three counties had not put any extra funds in place for mental health services despite more money being made available for a range of other supports due to the Covid pandemic.

Deputy Naughten says it's already well known that the acute mental health units in the region are full to capacity leaving people requiring intensive support without a bed, and most mental health support networks and support services have been wound down because of social distancing restrictions.
