The Dáil has heard there is a chronic lack of social housing for people with special needs and disabilities in the Shannonside region.

Sinn Fein TD Sorca Clarke told the Dail that she was aware of a man in the Longford-Westmeath constituency who lost a leg due to complications from diabetes, and is still living in a house not suitable for his needs over two years after the amputation.

The comments were made during a debate in the Dail on the Residential Tenancies and Valuation Bill this afternoon.

The Mullingar woman also outlined the difficulties facing a family living in Ballymahon who sold their home just before the pandemic and are now living between Longford and Dublin:
