Over one-million euro has been announced for outdoor recreation amenities in the Shannonside region.
The government is providing four hundred thousand euro for two key projects in Longford- half of which will be for a walkway to link Ballymahon town to Newcastle wood and the other half for the Newtownforbes Bog Walk.
Three-hundred-and-forty-nine thousand euro is being allocated for two projects in Roscommon - €200,000 for a cycle and walkway at Portunny harbour and €150,000 to improve the Doon Shore amenity at Lough Key.
Two projects in Leitrim will also receive funding - including €180,000 for work at Fowleys' Falls in Rossinver and €149,000 on walking trails between Leitrim village and Sheemore Hill.
The total spend is part of a €6.5 million investment nationwide under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme, which is run by Minister Heather Humphreys's Department of Rural and Community Development.
The funding has been welcomed Sligo-Leitrim-North-Roscommon TD and Minister o for public health Frank Feighan.
