There has been pressure on the government to add extra countries to the list, including some from the EU

A special cabinet meeting is taking place this evening to sign off on adding new countries to the mandatory hotel quarantine list.

Passengers arriving from 58 states currently have to spend two weeks in a designated hotel at their own cost.

But the government is considering adding EU countries like Germany, Italy and France to the list, on foot of medical advice.

3,400 more foreign residents flew into Dublin Airport last week than the previous seven days. Nearly 8,600 non-residents flew into the facility last week - an increase of 66 per cent. That's despite the introduction of mandatory hotel quarantine two weeks ago.
