Shannonside region accounts for 20% of all road deaths this year

16 people have died in collisions in the Mayo-Roscommon-Longford division and 12 in Meath-Westmeath, a total of 28.

Over 20% of all fatal road traffic collisions have occurred in Garda divisions in the Shannonside region this year.

New figures from An Garda Síochána show the Mayo-Roscommon-Longford and Meath-Westmeath divisions have the 2nd and 3rd highest amount of road deaths nationally.

16 people have died in collisions in the Mayo-Roscommon-Longford division and 12 in Meath-Westmeath, a total of 28.

The Clare-Tipperary division has the highest number of road deaths nationally at 19.

A total of 130 people have died in road traffic collisions across the country so far this year

Gardaí are to provide over 4,000 extra hours of speed camera operations in order to tackle the unprecedented death toll.
