A Longford woman who last week settled her case following a legal battle over the handling of her smear tests, has travelled to Mexico today for specialised treatment for advanced cervical cancer.

32-year-old Lynsey Bennett sued the HSE and the US lab that analysed her slide by claiming her cancer was allowed to grow and spread without detection.

The Killoe woman departed from Dublin Airport this morning to travel to the Hope for Cancer Treatment Centre in Mexico.

A Go Fund Me page set up by a friend of the 32 year old to help fund the trip, significantly passed its target over the weekend following her appearance on the Late Late Show, with over €84,000 pledged over a target of €75,000.

Lynsey plans to spend 4 weeks in Mexico at the centre before returning to begin treatment with new immunotherapy drug, Pembro, following clearance for its use from the HSE.

Speaking in Dublin Airport this morning, she says she's hoping the trip will help her fight her cancer:
