Samples of algal bloom which have been discovered at a lake in Leitrim have been assessed and sent away for further investigation.
Leitrim County Council this week erected signs at Keeldra lake after the discovery of a blue-green algal bloom at the popular lake.
They have issue warning people not to touch it and to try and prevent animals also coming into contact with it.
The Council has confirmed that the bloom was first noticed last November and work is ongoing with Inland fisheries to determine its cause.
Samples of the lake water and algal bloom have been assessed and the Council plans to undertake a thorough catchment assessment of Keeldra Lake as soon as COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.
