Roscommon records no cases of monkeypox so far this year

The infectious disease has only been recorded among men in Ireland.

Roscommon is one of only three counties in Ireland which has not recorded any cases of monkeypox so far this year.

New figures published by the HPSC reveal that no cases of the infectious disease have been recorded in CHO2, which covers Roscommon, Galway and Mayo.

Five cases have been recorded in CHO8 which includes County Longford and three cases in CHO1, which includes County Leitrim.

All 101 cases recorded in Ireland so far this year are in men.

Most of those cases are aged 25-44 but the total age range of all cases is 19-65.

Health officials are tracking down close contacts for each of them and issuing advice on what to do if they become ill.
