A Water Source Protection Pilot Project in Co. Roscommon is the winner of the European Bee Award 2020.
The award from the Brussels-based European Landowners Organisation is for the Let it Bee initiative, carried out by the group water schemes in Roscommon.
The project includes the distribution of beehives to local farming families, trees being provided to primary school children in 88 national schools across Roscommon provided by Sean Mulryan's Ballymore Properties and farmers implementing measures to protect water courses, which also act as habitats for pollinators.
Thomas Rushe from the Corracreigh Group Water Scheme, which has undertaken a number of initiatives, says it's an award for everyone to share.
