It's hoped that the Tarmon road in Castlerea will be re-opened in time for schools returning in September.
The route bypasses the town and provides a link from the Frenchpark Boyle road to Castleplunkett and onto Tulsk; it also leads directly to the Tarmon primary school
It has been closed off from today for the realignment of the bridge over the Tarmon river and to take out some sharp bends close to the bridge.

Local Councillor Paschal Fitzmaurice, who sought funding for the project, says significant works will be required to reinstate the new bridge but it will hopefully progress quickly once that's complete:
