Road safety issues at Killashee NS may be addressed under CLAR scheme

Road safety in the vicinity of the school was highlighted when children were encouraged to walk or cycle to school as part of the "green" schools scheme

Longford County Council is to work with the management board of Killashee National School in an effort to improve safety of children accessing the school from the N63.

The issue was raised through a notice of motion from Councillor Mick Cahill at the latest meeting of Ballymahon Municipal District.

Area Engineer Paul Newell said the junction leading up to the school is quite small and a better option may be to make a route through the community field there.

He also says the council is going o help the school apply for funding under the Clar scheme and see if they can get a pedestrian crossing installed.

Councillor Cahill is welcoming the action being taken on the issue and says it was actually during the schools taking part in a recent "green" initiative that the problem was highlighted.
