In the UK, a police station was set on fire and three officers injured as violence broke out in Sunderland last night.
Eight people were arrested during the riots - said to be linked to the fatal stabbing of three little girls in Southport on Monday.
The North East Mayor, Kim McGuinness, says those involved "don't speak for the region".
