The Central Statistics Office has compiled the data, which shows there has been up to 1,192 more deaths since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic than expected each year.

The last five year's worth of death notices to RIP.ie has been analysed as part of this study.

A quarter of deaths now happen at home - compared with 16 percent last October.

In April, there were over 1,200 deaths reported at HIQA registered nursing homes, which is aroun double more than other months and is attributed to the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, in June and July, the number of deaths was lower than the average from the previous three years.

The figures were lower by around 100.

Researchers found it took an average of 1.1 days until a death notice is posted on RIP.ie from when the death occured.
