Councillor Padraig McNamara has been appointed as the Cathaoirleach of the Granard Municipal District.
He was nominated by his Fine Gael colleague Garry Murtagh, and seconded by the outgoing cathaoirleach, Turlough McGovern.
The councillor was elected in 2024 and is well-known to the community in Granard, having served as the local postmaster and also as part of the National Executive of the Irish Postmasters' Union.
Councillor Garry Murtagh commended him, particularly for his involvement in the GAA and for securing an agri field for the Granard Show.

While Fine Gael's Colin Dalton was elected as Leas Cathaoirleach at the council's AGM this afternoon.
Garry Murtagh described him as "deeply passionate" about his work in the local community.
