Over 5,000 people across the Shannonside region were on the live register in the month of June. That's according to a recent report compiled by the Central Statistics Office. The CSO provided a county-breakdown of the number of people availing of Jobseeker's Benefit or Allowance by social welfare office and age. In June, Co. Longford held the highest number of claimants in the region at 2,010. This is followed by Co. Roscommon at 2,002. While in Co. Leitrim, 1,565 people availed of Jobseeker's Benefit or Allowance.
The CSO recorded a total of 5,577 claimants in the region, of which 684 were under the age of 25. The unadjusted Live Register total stood at 172,663 people for the month of June - 54.1 perc cent of claimants were male and 72 per cent were Irish.
