There were over 10,000 drivers with learner permits in the Shannonside region in March of this year.
That's according to figures from the Road Safety Authority, released under Freedom of Information to the Irish Road Haulage Association.
The figures show there hasn't been any major increases in the past year across the region.
As of March 2026, there were 4,314 drivers in Co. Roscommon with learner permits which is down 71 on the previous year.
According to the figures, Longford has seen no change with 3,687 learner drivers on the road in March.
In Leitrim, the number of drivers with learner permits increased by 25 to 2,306.
The IRHA says it shows despite having a budget of millions, the RSA is 'out of its depth, unable to manage driver testing and failing at road safety'.
