Plans for a new industrial unit in Ballaghaderreen have been appealed to An Bord Pleanála.
Roscommon County Council granted permission for Griffdon Ltd to go ahead with the 732 square metre unit at Toobrackan, Ballaghaderreen despite objections from local residents.
The site is located between the local road R446 and the slip road onto the new N5 bypass.
In submissions to Roscommon County Council, residents raised concerns about the impact this industrial unit would have on road safety in the area, its impact on the appearance of the approach road to the town and the amount of similar vacant buildings already existing around Ballaghadereen.
Residents also cited concerns that this development would be outside of the town core and therefore go against the local area plan.
However, Roscommon County Council's Planners Report states that while a Town Centre first approach should be adopted, it is not appropriate to locate industrial units in town or village centres given the nature of their business.
An Bord Pleanala is due to rule on the application by February 18th.
