A midlands public health specialist is asking people to consider meeting some friends or relatives outdoors over the holiday season as a means of minimising the Covid risk.
Dr Ann Herlihy says that 98 people have died as a result of Covid in the counties of Longford, Westmeath,Laois and Offaly since the pandemic began.
She says with people wanting to say hello and meet friends over the next several days, they are asking people to try and maintain their social distance, and to continue hand hygiene, and coughing and sneezing etiquette.
Dr Herlihy says that people can also try other ways to minimise the risk of spreading the virus by arranging to meet some of their contacts in an outdoor setting.
