Man due in court over attempt to collect dead man's pension

Gardaí arrested two men in their 30s yesterday.

A man will appear in court this morning, charged in connection with an attempt to collect a dead man's pension in Carlow last week.

66 year old Peadar Doyle was brought to a post office in Carlow Town by two men last Friday morning, but staff became suspicious when attempts were made to claim his pension.

He was found to have died that morning.

One has been released, while the other is due before Kilkenny District Court this morning.

He was subsequently found to have died that morning and his body was removed from the scene.

Earlier, a man had allegedly tried to collect his pension, but was told the recipient had to be present.

Gardaí began a criminal investigation and two men in their 30s were arrested on suspicion of deception.

They were detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act in separate garda stations.

One of the men was released last night. The other was charged and is due before Carlow District Court this morning.
