The R357 between Ballinasloe and Shannonbridge is still closed this morning following a fatal road collision yesterday evening.
The collision happened around 7 0' clock yesterday evening at Cloneash, Oldtown, Athlone, around one and a half kilometres from Shannonbridge village.
A car and truck were involved in the incident.
The driver of the car, a man in his 30's was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to University Hospital Galway for a post mortem.
The driver of the truck, a man in his 40's, was taken to Portiuncula Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The road was closed following the collision last night and it is likely to remain closed for a number of hours to allow a forensic examination of the scene to be carried out.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and also to any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) from along the route at around the time of the collision to come forward.
