A man is being detained at Longford garda station this morning following a robbery at a primary school in Longford town last night.
It's understood a man entered the school yesterday evening shortly after 7 o' clock while a meeting was underway and demanded money from those attending after threatening one of them with a sharp object.
A number of people were attending the meeting in advance of the school re-opening next week and it's understood the men left the room after several of them handed over money to him.
No one was injured in the incident.
Gardai were called to the scene and a man was arrested in connection with the robbery a short time later.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and are particularly appealing to the driver of a van that may have been flagged down in the Chapel Street area by the suspect as he fled from the scene.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Longford Garda Station 043 335 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
