A Longford women's rights advocate thinks the controversy over a TV ad that showed women how to use a tampon is connected to the idea of shame.

Earlier this week the advertising watchdog has come under fire for removing a tampon ad that demonstrated how they work.

The Tampax ad received 84 complaints and the ASAI decided to pull it as a result.

Síona Cahill is former President of the Unions of Students of Ireland and sits on the board of the Irish Family Planning Association.

She told the Joe Finegan show that the banning of the ad in Ireland is very regressive :
