Longford woman cancels family gatherings at Christmas due to Covid increase

Longford woman Barbara Smyth says she took the decision yesterday to cancel plans with family this Christmas. Speaking on the Let's Talk show today

Longford woman Barbara Smyth says she took the decision yesterday to cancel plans with family this Christmas.

Speaking on the Let's Talk show today Barbara says that after watching her 83 year old father battle Covid for seven weeks earlier this year she knows all too well how serious this virus can be.

Her decision comes as it was announced today that the country is going to re-enter a version of Level 5 restrictions from later this week.

Tánaiste Leo Varadkar has warned this third lockdown could last for the first two months of 2021.

A travel ban will come into effect on the 27th of December.

Barbara says she'd been watching the numbers increase steadily over the past week, and even though she would have loved an extended family gathering it just isn't worth the risk.
