The manager of Mullingar Credit Union says one of their main challenges over the past year is the build-up in people's savings.

The credit union now involves a total of 5 branches across Westmeath and Longford and the agreement to merge the two counties is in operation for almost a year.

Tom Allen says the organisation has adapted well to the Covid crisis and has been able to maintain services at a high level.

A "members update" is being issued this year instead of the usual annual report, and the manager says they'll have to wait and see when the Annual General Meeting can be allowed given the Covid restrictions.

He says the credit union is doing well, but like most other financial businesses it's seeing a significant decrease in lending.
