A Longford principal says she had no choice but to close the doors of her school today as a result of a major water outage in County Longford.
Irish Water is currently working to try and remedy an electrical fault at its Lough Forbes water treatment plant which has affected hundreds of households and businesses.
The issue was first reported at around 9pm and areas such as Edgeworthstown, Newtownforbes, Longford Town, Drumlish, Ballinalee and Clondra have experienced loss of supply
It's not yet clear when the supply may be restored, or if water tankers will need to be provided in the interim.
Several schools in the county have closed their doors today including Templemichael College, who confirmed they would maintain classes through remote online learning.
Over 200 pupils attend St Emer's primary school on the Ballinalee road and its Principal Martina McCormack says that due to the pandemic, and the need for children to regularly wash their hands - they had no option but to send pupils home.
