A Longford song in aid of the Irish Cancer Society has gone to number one in the iTunes charts.

The song was written by local man Eamon O Ceallaigh several decades ago, with his friend Tom O' Brien in mind for the vocals.

Tom O' Brien who's well known in the Longford community is fighting cancer presently and wanted to raise funds for the Irish Cancer Society.

Eamon recorded the song "whatchya gonna do when you leave school" at Tom's house and in a local recording studio in recent days and the song featuring Tom o' Brien on the lead vocals has gone straight to number 1 on iTunes.

A GoFundMe page called Tom O' Brien, fight against cancer- has also been created in support of the campaign.

Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show in recent days, Tom O' Brien says they're delighted with the success of the song and the support they've been getting:
