The operator of a new meat processing plant in Longford says there needs to be more regulation in relation to the large processing facilities.

Paul Davis who's originally from Longford has recently established Valhalla Meats in the Townparks Industrial Estate in Longford.

The plant processes a range of different meats in partnership with local farmers and food producers and Paul says they can easily implement safe Covid procedures because of the small amount of people involved so far.

He says it's very difficult to see how a larger plant can operate safely and keep the same amount of workers on the floor at one time.

Paul Davis says he believes the safest way to address the Covid problem in the large plants would be to run more shifts at the plants.
