The trial has been taking place at Longford Circuit Court.

A Longford man has been found guilty on all counts in connection with a violent incident in Longford town  4 years ago.

Denis Hannifin of Curry, Athlone Road, had pleaded NOT guilty to the assault of Denis McGinley, as well as to charges of affray and possession and production of a weapon and intentionally causing harm at Longford Shopping Centre on the 7th of December, 2018.

The trial got underway on Monday in front of Judge Francis Comerford and a jury of 7 women and 5 men finding,.

After just over two hours of deliberations, the jury returned a guilty verdict on all four counts.

Mr Hannifin was remanded in custody ahead of sentencing on the 9th of May.

A number of other reports, including a victim impact statement, are also to be prepared before that date.
