The median price for a residential property in the county in the year to May was €198,000 - the least expensive in the country.

Longford is the cheapest county in Ireland to buy a home.

The median price for a residential property in the county in the year to May was €198,000 - the least expensive in the country.

It was €223,000 in Leitrim and €230,500 in Roscommon, according to the CSO.

Longford councillor Uruemu Adejinmi says being the cheapest place to buy is positive:
