Longford dairy farmer undertakes major fundraiser for famine victims in Yemen

A Longford dairy farmer hopes that up to €170,000 could be raised among his sector to give to the Red Cross who are trying to help people in Yemen where a major famine is happening.

Mike Magan who runs a dairy farm at Killashee in Longford says he's hoping the majority of dairy farmers in the country will contribute €10 to the cause through their local co-op and the Irish Co-operative Society or ICOS.

He says the co-ops will be involved so as to cut out the need for administration costs and all the money raised can go directly to the people who need it.

The Longford man says he decided to organise the fundraising after watching a television report on the famine in Yemen at the end of June this year.
