Thousands of people have been logging on to Longford County Council's 'Keep Well' campaign online events.

A recent meeting of Granard Municipal District heard that over 12 thousand people have now viewed the online weekly sing-along sessions led by Director of Music Angela Reynolds.

Requests are coming in from all over the world with the 'sing alongs' being broadcast to nursing homes in other countries as well.

Thousands of people have also engaged with the historical online Burning of Granard talk celebrating local history month.

The Longford County Librarian presented figures to the elected members saying that they are running digital skills workshops for people who want help in accessing services online.

She says while this programme of online events will never replace in-person gatherings, it was a clear sign that people are interested in engaging in their communities during this pandemic.

Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound, Mary Carlton Reynolds said they never expected to see such an exciting uptake, when compared with the numbers they might have expected to see at in-person events.
