It's hoped the new plans will act as a deterrent to criminals but will also show the public who CAB is dealing with.

A Longford Councillor is welcoming plans to give the Criminal Assets Bureau new powers.

The Justice Minister Helen McEntee is proposing publishing the names of people who have made settlements with CAB, similar to Revenue's list of tax defaulters.

Fianna Fail's Seamus Butler believes it's a positive move and says almost 30 raids have been completed in Longford over the last two years.

Last month calls were made for a dedicated CAB office in Longford however Councillor Butler believes this suggestion is not realistic.

''They're based in Dublin headquarters. And from that point of view, I think that's the way it should remain. The element of surprise of dawn raids would be taken out if they were operating from an office in Longford. They have done over 30 raids in the last two and a half years.''
