The Chief Executive of Longford says securing funding to replace the rates lost through Lough Ree Power will be an ongoing issue.

It's exactly a year since a ruling by An Bord Pleanala resulted in a decision to close the power station from the end of December, five years prematurely.

Longford County Council has received compensation of 1.2 million euro from central government to fill the gap of 15 per cent of rates for next year that the ESB paid.

Chief Executive Paddy Mahon says while it will be an ongoing concern to replace the money for the next few years, he's heartened by the fact that they have been paid for next year at least:
