The Cathaoirleach of Longford has welcomed new guidelines around rural planning.
It comes as Cabinet agreed on the Draft National Planning Statement this afternoon.
It will now go through an environmental assessment under relevant EU directives before being formally approved by Government.

Among a number of measures included in the plan are homeowners being allowed to build a second one-off house on their land to facilitate downsizing.
