Athlone school students “calling occupants of interplanetary craft”

An Athlone school has been selected to speak to astronauts on the International Space Station.

Athlone Community College beat off competition from schools nationwide to submit their questions to the astronauts which will be answered on a live call on amateur radio as the ISS passes over Ireland in December.

The school is building momentum with a number of competitions from naming a star and designing a space helmet.

Science teacher Laura Donnelan says everyone is very excited.
