The Chief Operations Officer for the Saolta University Health Care Group says admissions to most local hospitals are at near normal levels despite the absence of flu in the country.
There have been no cases of flu reported in the past few weeks which normally cause overcrowding in hospitals.
The absence of the virus is being put down to increased uptake of the flu vaccine, social distancing, and better etiquette around sneezing and coughing.
Anne Cosgrove is Operations Officer for the The Saolta Group which covers Roscommon, Portiuncula, and Sligo hospitals among others.
She says the hospitals are still very busy despite flu not being an issue so far this year.
