Level 5 restrictions could last until May as fears around Covid-19 variants have forced Ministers to reconsider any potential plans for reopening the economy.

It comes as the country is on track to have between 400 and 500 cases a day by the end of March, higher than previous estimates.

Public health officials have revised their predictions after an earlier trend showed between 200 and 400 cases a day.

754 people with Covid-19 are in hospitals this morning, which is a 62 percent decrease from the peak last month.

In the past 24 hours there were 46 admissions to and 40 discharges from hospitals.

It's 2 percent down on yesterday's total, while its fallen 21 percent since last Friday.

Last night there were 151 people in ICU.

Professor Philip Nolan, who chairs NPHET's modelling group, says some recent figures are worrying.
