19 year-old Dylan Gallagher was recently fined €117 by Irish Rail for travelling on a 'Young Adult' ticket without a valid 'Young Adult Leap Card'

A young adult from Leitrim is calling for clearer communication around the 'Young Adult' fares on Irish Rail.

19 year-old Dylan Gallagher from Carrick-On-Shannon is training to become cabin crew with Ryanair and does not qualify for a student card.

He was recently fined €117 by Irish Rail for travelling on a 'Young Adult' ticket without a valid 'Young Adult Leap Card'. He told the Joe Finnegan show earlier that the ticket is not advertised as a 'Young Adult Leap Card' ticket and the leap card itself is not as beneficial outside of Dublin.

"This ticket hasn't been advertised as the "Young Adult Leap Card" ticket, it's been advertised as a "Young Adult" ticket for 19-23 year olds. Now when you look in the fine print, it says you need one of these, but being a young adult from the west of Ireland, we don't have the public transport that you would need for one of these leap cards".
