Leitrim County Council has vowed to brief all affected parties on project concepts where a person's business or home may be acquired before external party discussions take place.
The local authority was responding to a motion from Councillor Des Guickian, who claimed the Council and its CEO had "declared war" on a family in Carrick on Shannon.
The Geraghtys have secured over 9,000 signatures opposing a 'concept plan' by the Council for a 3,000 square metre development on Main Street.
The plan would have involved the acquisition of their home and business.
Councillor Des Guickian, in a motion, claimed the Council had engaged in a covert process without consultation with the family.
Responding, CE Lar Power said any concept design did not have to be discussed with the interested parties before they sought funding, and that it will be upto the members of the Municipal District ultimately to decide on the project.
He said that there had been a misunderstanding and that in future the Council will endeavour to to brief affected parties before external discussions take place where a home or business may be affected.
