Leitrim County Council has heard concerns that the design of some bins in the county are leading to animals and birds pulling rubbish out and causing extra work for tidy towns volunteers.
Councillors were asked to approve a draft of the new Litter management plan for the next two years at the September meeting of the local authority.
The meeting heard that some bins were being stuffed full of household waste, and that the local authority currently is following up all littering complaints.
Mohill's Councillor Thomas Mulligan also claimed that the design of bins were making it easier for wildlife to remove rubbish and items from bins.
