Leitrim council says it is making progress on Carrick bypass route

Leitrim County Council has assured local representatives that it is "pushing on" with the planned Carrick-on-Shannon bypass.

The meeting to agree the Council's Annual budget this month heard that the local authority is currently on phase two of the project, with analysis underway of potential constraints.

A report on draft route options is expected to be complete by the third quarter of next year according to senior Council Executive Officer Terry McGovern.

Councillor Enda Stenson claimed that very little progress appeared to have been made with the project since a meeting with the TII a number of years ago.

The meting heard a full team of consultants are currently working on the project and regular communication is taking place between the Council and the TII office in Roscommon.

The Independent Councillor says people in the South Leitrim are cannot afford to wait for another ten years to see progress once the routes are published.
