Investigations will continue this week into the discovery of stone wall-like structure uncovered during public realm works in Roscommon town.
The structure was uncovered on the corner of Main street and Church street as contactors install a new storm water and drainage system in the town centre. An on-site archaeologist will prepare a report on the discovery for the county council.
Engineers estimate that it may be part of an older culvert or drainage system running down Main street with local reports are also suggesting that it may part of an old entrance to the centre of the town.
Roscommon town historian John Kerrigan explains.
