Carrick-on-Shannon District Court has been told an investigation file in relation to the alleged murder of a man in Leitrim is at an “advanced stage of preparation”.

The case has been adjourned for four weeks, with the accused remanded in custody until then.

Latvian Janis Balodis, 41, was pronounced dead after being found unresponsive at a home in Arderry, between Ballinamore and Carrigallen, on June 11th.

Polish native Bartosz Cylka, 36, with an address at Arderry, Corrawaleen, was charged with his murder.

He appeared in Carrick District Court this morning by videolink and was assisted by a Polish interpreter.

Sergeant David McDonagh said the investigation file is at "an advanced state of preparation".

He said some technical reports are awaited, as well as directions from the DPP.

He asked for an adjournment to the summer sittings of Ballyshannon District Court.

Mr Cylka’s solicitor, John Anderson, said he’s withdrawing his services today because of Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan’s changes to the legal-aid scheme.
